Are Multivitamins Necessary For Arizona Kids?

Are Multivitamins Necessary For Arizona Kids?

Hello Arizona! Welcome to today’s Arizona children’s nutrition post. I am Jeremy Reynolds, and I promote children’s health in Arizona and the 84054 zip code area.

Today’s post discusses children’s vitamins. Many Arizona parents give their kids a chewable or liquid multivitamin. We all know that it is essential for Arizona kids to get sufficient amounts of vitamins and minerals and we often give them a pill to fill in nutritional gaps, just in case. Are multivitamins necessary for Arizona kids?

I have found that Arizona pediatricians have varying opinions about this issue. Some Salt Lake City children’s doctors recommend parents give their children vitamins in pill form or at least don’t discourage it.

More importantly, Arizona pediatricians urge parents to feed their children a variety of nutritious foods, presumably because vitamins and minerals in foods are better absorbed.

The Mayo Clinic website offers the following advice for Arizona parents who give their children a multivitamin:1

Make sure the multivitamin is designed for your child’s age group.
Choose one that provides 100 percent of the daily value (DV) for all vitamins and minerals.
Store multivitamins out of your child’s reach and make it clear that they are not candy.
Don’t use multivitamins as a replacement for proper nutrition.

I sell a great-tasting healthy snack packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other good stuff for kids. To order, contact me today.

Energy Drinks Pose Health Risks For Arizona Kids

Energy Drinks Pose Health Risks For Arizona Kids

Hello Arizona! Welcome to my children’s health blog. I am a concerned parent and advocate for improved children’s health in the Arizona area.

Today’s topic is energy drinks. Many Arizona teens are under the false impression that energy drinks like Rock Star and Red Bull are similar to sports drinks such as Gatorade and Powerade.

Energy drinks are completely different from electrolyte replacement drinks and we need to help our children understand the health risks they pose. Energy drinks contain dangerous chemicals that can harm kid’s growing bodies, especially their teeth.

Energy drinks contain citric acid, fruit juices and extracts, sugar, and a dangerous chemical that gives them their bright color. They can damage tooth enamel with prolonged use.

It is important for us Arizona parents to model healthy behavior for our children. If your kids see you guzzle energy drinks, you may want to think about the example you are setting.

I sell child-friendly nutritional products that are enjoyed by healthy Arizona families. To order healthy energy-boosters, visit www.showmethechocolate.com.

DASH Diet Better For Teens In North Salt Lake

DASH Diet Better For Teens In North Salt Lake Attention North Salt Lake teens: The Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension (DASH) helps prevent adolescent obesity, according to a recent study.1

The study was published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. The DASH diet includes low-fat dairy, chicken, lean, beef, chicken, nuts, fruits, whole grains, vegetables, and legumes.

Surprisingly, study participants who followed DASH actually ate, on average, 250 more calories than those who ate a typical North Salt Lake teen diet: high-fat meats, cheeses, highly processed foods, and fast food meals.

North Salt Lake parents who emphasize a ‘calorie deficit’ plan for teen weight loss may want to consider focusing more on the quality of the foods eaten.

I am a small business owner and teen health advocate in North Salt Lake. The products I sell promote health for people of all ages. For information on my health and wellness products, contact me today. Thanks for visiting my North Salt Lake children’s health blog.

Is My Utah Baby Ready For Solids?

Is My Utah Baby Ready For Solids?

Although Utah pediatricians generally recommend starting infants on solid foods when they are around six months of age, there are important developmental milestones that must be reached before your baby can take this step.

Even if an infant’s digestive system is ready for solid food, the baby must be able to safely swallow it. A baby should be able to sit with assistance but hold his or head up on their own. Without head and neck control, eating solids is difficult and dangerous. Many Utah pediatricians also advise parents to wait until an infant shows interest in what other family members are eating.

If you are unsure if your infant is ready for solid food, check with your Utah pediatrician. Remember that for the first year your baby’s nutrition will still come primarily from breast milk or formula.

My name is Jeremy Reynolds. I am an advocate for children’s health and nutrition in Utah. I also sell Xe Healthy Energy Drink, a nutritional powerhouse. For more information on Xe Healthy Energy Drink, call me today at 801-540-5788.

Does Your Utah Family Have An Emergency Kit?

Does Your Utah Family Have An Emergency Kit?

Smart residents prepare for emergencies, and parents of young children in the Salt Lake City area should be aware of the special nature of preparing their families for emergencies.

Since the health and safety of all family members is important, everyone’s needs should be taken into account when preparing emergency provisions.

A 72-hour emergency kit should be easy to grab and contain essentials like water, food, first aid kit, flashlight, prescription medications, etc. North Salt Lake families should consider what each child eats. Formula and bottles should be included if you have infants, and soft baby food (and a spoon!) for toddlers. Don’t forget diapers and baby wipes: you can find convenient travel sizes of these at Utah, Arizona, and California area drugstores.

Since healthy kids grow and change so quickly, North Salt Lake families should update these emergency kits at least twice a year.
A good reminder is daylight savings time. When Salt Lake City families change their clocks, they should change the food and supplies in their kits.

I’m Jeremy Reynolds and the health and safety of North Salt Lake kids is important to me. I am the owner of a home business that sells XoBiotic. If you would like to learn more, please call me at 801-540-5788 or visit me on the web at www.showmethechocolate.com.

Flu Shot Guidelines For Utah Kids

Flu Shot Guidelines For Utah Kids

Every year as winter approaches, many Utah parents wonder if they should get their kids a flu shot.

Everyone gets the flu, right? Is it that big of a deal?

In most cases, the flu is an inconvenience, but not detrimental beyond missing a few days of school. However, Utah pediatricians caution that it is extremely important for high risk kids to get a flu shot. Ditto if your child is in regular contact with a high risk person.

What qualifies a child as high risk? Utah experts say that chronic medical conditions such as diabetes or asthma puts a child at greater risk because the flu can contribute to serious complications. Many Utah doctors also recommend flu shots for all children under five years old. Utah experts advise getting your child’s flu vaccination as early as possible, in August or September or as soon as it is available, to protect them through the entire season which generally lasts from October to April.

Remember that two shots are required for children under the age of eight, given four weeks apart, for full protection your first year of getting vaccinated. Just one shot per year is needed after that.

Flumist is a nasal spray vaccine that can be given to healthy children ages two and up, an option that can be more child friendly. Side effects from either method of vaccination may include runny nose, muscle aches, vomiting, or low grade fever. The new flu vaccines offer protection from both H1N1 and the seasonal flu.

Why not start a career as an entrepreneur before graduation?

Prevent Classroom Sickness In Utah

Prevent Classroom Sickness In Utah

To curb the spread of viruses, lice, and other kid’s health threats in Utah schools, parents need to teach their kids proper hygiene practices and review them on a regular basis.

Here is a rundown of some unwelcome classroom visitors and steps to combat them:

  • Head lice: wash hands frequently, don’t share combs, hats, scarves.
  • Ringworm (skin infection with circular lesions, not actually caused by worms): keep sores covered, don’t share combs or clothing.
  • Pinkeye: vigilant hand washing can help stop the spread. Utah parents should keep kids home if their eyes are pink or draining fluid.
  • Colds, flu, strep: anti-bacterial wipes and no-rinse hand sanitizer can supplement soap and water scrubbing. Remind kids not to share drinks, snacks, lotion, chap stick, and lip gloss.

Utah children who know and practice these safeguards will be prepared when the next H1N1 threat visits Salt Lake City.

I promote children’s health issues in Salt Lake City. For information on my health business, contact me today.
